Seasteading is an effort to conquer a new ecosystem with mankind learning to live at sea, like we do on land, and to do so, will require us to build shipyards that can produce the equivalent of what we might deem, an Ark, that is capable of carrying us & enabling our survival in an environment that is hostile toward us in many ways. Space will present many similar challenges, in that we will have to learn to adapt to new environments without the resources we are used to having on land - unless we bring them with us, or we can acquire them insitu. If we can build a shipyard at sea, that can produce more seasteads - the ark of continuity for civilization upon the sea, will extend more than a single lifetime, or the lifetime of a single seastead, rather than expire or its people be forced back upon the land to retire.
